The NBA is the largest private professional basketball league in the United States and one of the top four sports leagues in the country. It is made up of 29 American teams and 1 Canadian team.
This basketball league was created in New York City in 1946 (the year when several of the best professional basketball teams were founded). In its beginnings it began as the Basketball Association of America (BAA), but years later (1949), after merging with the National Basketball League (NBL), it adopted the name of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
